    Wordle solver: guide & tips

    How the Wordle solver works

Feed in the clues you already have and the solver narrows 270,000+ words down to the handful that still fit. Type any green letters into their exact positions, list the yellow letters that are in the word somewhere, and list the gray letters that have been ruled out. The remaining candidates are ranked so the most likely answers — those built from common letters — appear first.

You do not need every clue to get value: even one or two greens plus a couple of grays usually cuts the field dramatically.

Green, yellow, and gray — what to enter

    • Green: the letter is correct and in the right spot. Type it into that position box.
    • Yellow: the letter is in the word but in a different spot. Add it to “present” letters.
    • Gray: the letter is not in the word at all. Add it to “absent” letters.

If a letter is both green/yellow and gray (a repeated-letter situation), the solver keeps it — it won’t wrongly throw out words that need that letter.

    Good opening words

A strong first guess tests many common letters at once. Words like CRANE, SLATE, TRACE, and ADIEU are popular because they cover frequent consonants and vowels. After your opener, enter the colors here to see what is still possible and pick a second guess that tests new letters.

    Is it cheating?

Use it however feels right to you. Plenty of players use a solver to break a frustrating streak-saver, to learn new five-letter words, or to check their reasoning after the fact. Treat it as a coach rather than an autopilot and your unaided solving will get sharper over time.
